How to choose a wedding perfume
Perfume is all about creating and capturing memories.
Brand Manager of Franck Muller Perfumes Tabitha Gray says; "Time prepares you for an event and perfume holds the memory thereafter."
Many people look for the special little touches that will transform the ordinary into something extraordinary. Here are some crucial tips when looking for your wedding day scent...
1. YOU DON'T NEED BESPOKE
A one-of-a-kind fragrance is an incredibly romantic idea. However often, it's not the most practical.
Many fully bespoke perfumes take months of production, cost thousands of pounds (during my years of working with Roja Dove, our bespoke perfumes started at a whopping £45,000) and in the end it still might not be the fragrance that makes your heart sing.
A good perfumer may be able to interpret your dreams and desires into a unique scent, but ultimately the thing you will need most (besides some extra budget) is time and patience.
But before diving in, remember that wearing an off-the-shelf perfume can still be just as romantic, seductive and special.
2. SWITCH IT UP
Much like with your dress, your suit, your shoes, your hairstyle, a great way to feel extra special on your wedding day is to step out of your ordinary scent.
Finding something new also to lock in those happy memories, as it'll be free from other associations.
3. SYMBOLISM
Many people love their big day to be dotted with symbols of their love and passion for one another. If there's a particular flower or material that is important to you, why not consider sampling some fragrances that feature that note?
4. THE LOCATION
Think about where you are getting married and what the day is likely to be like.
If you're getting married in 30 degree heat, you may want to think twice about wearing a fragrance that is dark, cloying and heavy. Perhaps in that moment, you'd be grateful for something light and cool.
5. TRY BEFORE YOU BUY
We'd never recommend blind-buying in any instance, but this is a biggie.
Whilst scent has the power to capture your imagination and reinforce incredible moments in time, it also the power to ruin them. Having your big day punctuated with wafts of scent that you find unpleasant could be a big no-no.
Make sure that even when you think you've found the one, you try it out for a while and be sure. Arrange a date, wear it out with your partner and see what you think.
6. TRADITIONS AREN'T A RULE
Yes, a bouquet of white flowers is absolutely beautiful but if it's not your style then don't feel wedded (pun fully intended) to the traditional 'wedding' style fragrances.
Your partner is marrying you for you, so if smoky incense feels right then go for it and don't be shy.
7. BE CAUTIOUS OF STAINING
If, as above, you've chosen a rich, resinous oil for the big day then be aware that this may darker in colour. Be ultra cautious with dark-coloured fragrances, especially if you're in a stunning white dress...
8. EXPLORE THE OPTIONS
A great way to explore some options for a wedding scent is through a personalised sample set. You can explore a range of different of luxury brands, matched to your personal taste and take your time on finding the perfect one to complete your look for the big day.
