VERBENA IN PERFUME
Verbena, sometimes called 'Vervain' or 'Verveine', are stunning flowering plants that appear in over 150 species and, when used in perfume, have a very distinct scent.
Native to subtropical America, they are mostly perennial flowers with small, five-petalled flowers in vibrant colours.
Although it is technically a 'Floral' ingredient, the scent of Verbena is classified under the Citrus family and is believed to have many stimulating therapeutic benefits.
The highest quality Verbena oil is processed during Spring when the oil will contain powerful antioxidants Nerol, Citral and Verbascoside.
It was commonly used to scent finger-bowls as high class social events and was dried for potpourri to scent the home before being introduced into perfume.
Verbena has been popularised through mentions in Gone with the Wind and Little House on the Prairie.
